Moldova. A country of mere 13,000 square miles contains multitudes of tragedy, conflict, oddity, and aspiration.
This a place historically shuffled between countries, marinated in ethnic and linguistic tug-of-wars, and now facing the biggest decision of its life: will they turn toward the East or the West?
I'm currently working on a collection of interconnected short stories that attempt to capture this fascinating region.
Though a work of fiction, the project draws inspiration from the lived experiences of Moldova's diverse population, including the Romanian, Russian, Jewish, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, and Gagauz people who chose to share their own stories with me.
